Surgeon
For the past thirty years, I have been privileged to serve my community as a general and trauma surgeon. I trained in the Navy at Bethesda and served with the Navy and Marines for fourteen years. I saw action in the First Gulf War and spent time overseas as well as 'haze gray and underway'.
I have written about these experiences in my nonfiction work and on my blog.
Author
I have always been a storyteller. My first efforts at creative writing started in high school and resulted in several novels that are safely dead and buried, never to see the light of day. I have been published since 1996, both through small press publishers and through independent self publishing. Most of my fiction is in the 'hard' science fiction genre, but my new series is fantasy/police procedural - think Lord of the Rings meets Law and Order.
Fan
I have been a science fiction geek since I learned to read. Favorite authors include Heinlein, Asimov, Clement, Dick , Zelazny, and Anderson. Current reads include Eric Flint, Brandon Sanderson, David Brin, Wes Ochse, Sarah Gailey, and Nnedi Okorafor. I can often be found at local and nation conventions, both as a fan and a participant.
